He Causes Us To Triumph

I know. After a week like we witnessed, it's a little jarring to consider that God causes us to triumph. Watching humanity scale a wall to intentionally cause disruption and destruction and demise was unsettling and terrifying. As I sat at my desk in our home working, the news played in the background on one of the monitors I use, I fixated my gaze upon not foreign entities but instead fellow Americans, furiously angered by the results of an election and an incoming Black woman assuming leadership like we've never seen in the Americas, fueled by the current President. I watched in horror. In all transparency, I rose to my feet and fell on my face. I cried out to God. I wept sore. I prayed for the turmoil to cease, for our legislative body and first responders and media to be safe. I asked again as seemingly as I have since the onset of this pandemic for God to heal our land. To be sure, the calamity ceased, but as the smoke cleared, five lives were lost, folx were hospitalized, vandalism occurred, resignations were demanded and perhaps amplified all the more is the division that persists. As a believer, more specifically, as a believer who identifies as Black, I found myself doing what I do when faced with any other difficulty. I reminded myself that through it all, amidst it all (and all that is to come), He still causes us to triumph!

That may seem pollyannaish to you, but it works for me. In the words of our forever FLOTUS, when they go low (and that was gutter low), we go high - and for me, that means in the Lord. Nothing on last Wednesday took God by surprise, nor for that matter, very few Black folx and some righteous White folx as well. We've experienced the bitterness of the rhetoric and the imbalanced treatment of black and brown bodies, all across the United States, and in particularly last summer in the same space as the insurrection. Yet even amidst the horror, we are reminded that we have experienced and are experiencing, the triumph of God.

Beloved, when my eyes have consumed something that does not benefit my soul, I imagine an exchange if you will in my spirit. So as I witnessed the scaling of the wall, I considered in the same vein the extent to which God will continue to fight my battle and go wherever is necessary to ensure that His own will be victorious. It's confirmed in II Corinthians 2:14, "Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of His knowledge by us in every place." What I love about this verse is not only does He cause us to triumph, but the Word states that the term, "Always." That suggests that no matter what we see, we can undoubtedly, most assuredly, anticipate and expect the triumphant nature of God to supercede whatever experience we find ourselves navigating. Now to the naked eye, or those who are spurred to scale walls and circumvent boundaries at the prompting of the enemy, it may look as through triumph is unattainable. Consider how many of the domestic terrorists bragged about their "revolution" on social media. Yet when we use our spiritual eye, when we surrender to God, we are actually operating in strength and in strength, we are triumphant. "Always," suggests that God is deliberate in ensuring that it happens; without question, without restraint. Yes sisters and brothers in the household of faith, God is still on the throne. Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return (Galatians 6:7). Now let me get my fit together for the 20th.
