I became curious about the blue checkmark besides a person’s profile on social media platforms. Apparently, and I say this in my limited internet research, that a person or entity that has enough followers, articles or interviews, or compilation of media engagement in order to secure the coveted notariety. It affirms one’s credibility. It is as one author said, “It tells the world that you are someone.” Well, thanks be unto God that Jesus been checking for years! In a world where the accolades of wo(man) seem to be ever changing and quick to cancel, I’m grateful that the authentication found in the anointing is enough. In fact, it’s more than enough.

I’m not knocking anyone’s hustle. To be sure, I love to celebrate the success of others. However, the number of likes, and looks and comments pale in comparison to being loved by God. In society, we have set the bar so high for essentially nothingness, and yet God stands at the door of our heart, simply desiring to come in and sup with us, all while knowing our history, our herstory, the good, the bad and the really ugly; the drama, the trauma that we’ve caused as well as endured. Regardless, we are verified and certified as a result of the Blood of Jesus, shed over 2,000 years ago. While the social media universe has created a system of assurance, it may be useful for us to be reminded that blessed assurance over us has been operational for a minute and has the ability to carry us beyond technology and straight to the throne of grace.

Coming off of a weekend set aside to celebrate love, all while watching strange, discriminatory love being demonstrated on the floor of Congress, you may feel as my mom would say, “betwixt and between.” However, I would offer that God sits in the balance of our triumph and tragedy, and as He so lovingly ushers us through, we experience constant blue checkmarks often invisible to the naked eye. Perhaps you are striving to be noticed, to be known, to be embraced. Shoot your shot, but also know that all the validity you could ever need was established at Calvary. So while, you work to be branded as an influencer, don’t forget to take Philippians 3:14 with you, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” He’s been checking for you. He stay checking for you.
