While sitting at my desk a few days ago and listening to iTunes, I was enjoying a song so much that I selected the option to “repeat one song.” This enabled me to listen to the same song, repeatedly, without having to start it over each time it ended. Talk about a modern convenience! Back in the day, unless one sat next to the record player, or had a ready finger to rewind on a tape recorder, such action could get old real quick. Contemporary wisdom has eliminated the need for the consumer to assume such posture, and instead, enable the action automatically with little effort exerted by the consumer. While this ability may be new to “us,” it is not new to God. For he has the ability to be, in fact to always be, the God on rotation, that is if you allow.
We are assured of God’s rotating ability beginning with Hebrews 13:5, where he says, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” For us we can consider his presence in our lives, through each experience, be it what we consider profoundly purposeful or decidedly disordered. When we need to feel empowered, we can be certain that if we invite God he will show up as the big God he is. He just can’t help it! Isaiah 40:28 affirms, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.” Therefore when we are tired and exhausted, we can take rest in the fact that’s God specialization can be on full blast in our weakness. God always recalls the what and the why of creating us. Jeremiah 1:5 testifies, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you. And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” When we feel as though our hard work and our effort goes unnoticed, we call recall that we have our own personal cheering section. We are indeed at the top of God’s priority list. Luke 12:7 declares, “Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, you are of more value than many sparrows.” Who wouldn’t serve a God like that?!
Yet, it can be challenging. When our problems present on rotation, it’s difficult to seek the God on rotation. After all, couldn’t he just fast forward us through pain and get us to the better part of life? It’s rare that I purchase a cd (prior an album or cassette) whereby I like every song, but there are a few exceptions (Heart Break by NE…NE4Life!). When there are songs I don’t care for as much, I would enable skip. Sometimes, I wish I can skip through pieces of life, that don’t provide peace. However, our wise and all knowing God extends trouble to build our faith. And no matter how I’d rather not admit it, often the “wrong song” in life, brought me to reckoning with the righteous God. And still when I haven’t passed the test that he provided, he enabled me to remain, as likened to repeat or for that matter, rotation, until I learned what was necessary to be the believer that he needs in the earth.
Have big plans for this year? Expecting the unexpected? No matter what you attempt, no matter what you think, take the God on rotation with you. He doesn’t need to go on tour. He doesn’t need to drop a new song overnight. He needs no awards. He doesn’t have to stream his thoughts. No need for flashy clothes, a complicated backdrop with a hologram or sharing his wonders on social media with a hashtag. He is simply God, over and over and over again! Just when we think he can’t show up bigger, there he is, reminding us of why we have decided to follow him. He is the song of my life that I shall never get tired of experiencing.
